Dressmaker is a cozy sewing sim from Cozy Lives, published by Free Lives, in which you run a small-town shop inspired by real dressmaking. You buy cloth, draw a garment in the sketchbook, lay pattern pieces on the table, feed panels through a vintage sewing machine, add trims, and then either hand the dress to a client or put it in the shop window. Steam lists the full game as a paid Windows and macOS release that shipped on 21 September 2026 as app 4019220, with Unity as the engine and a South African studio behind the shop.
The store page is blunt about player control: every panel can take a different fabric, grain versus bias is visible on the finished dress, and thread colour is a design choice because the machine is described as having an infinite bobbin. Launch notes put story commissions at about 35 hours before you even count off-the-rack sales, with more than 150 dress pieces, more than 450 fabrics, and more than 350 accessories in the full catalogue. This site follows that making loop first, then the named systems, the ten clients called out in Steam Achievements, and the itch.io prototype that is still a separate download.
Studio, price, and the live patch
Cozy Lives is the developer named on Steam and on the Free Lives press kit; Free Lives publishes. The press sheet lists Windows and macOS, Unity, and a yes on petting the cat. Named credits include Jonathan Hau-Yoon on art lead and design, Ruan Rothmann on programming and design, Sara Laubscher on art, Sabrina Becker on design as a dressmaking expert, and Jason Sutherland on sound. Steam news set the price at USD 14.99 with regional pricing and a 10 percent launch discount, and the team said there are no microtransactions, ads, or generative AI on this product.
The first live Steam patch is Build 403. It restores a visible cursor in the cutting room, turns the store tutorial back button on, makes you ring a shop bell for the next customer, retags lace trim, pays out accepted failed commissions, and fixes a keyhole bodice plus ultra-wide shop buttons. July Tea had already locked 21 September 2026 after 200,000 wishlists and noted that the upside-down 福 on the front desk is intentional. Later posts promised small bugfix updates plus future work on an online challenge mode, transparent fabrics, proper controller support, and mobile and Switch ports.
Steam categories include Single-player, Steam Achievements, Custom Volume Controls, Mouse Only Option, Playable without Timed Input, Steam Cloud, and Family Sharing. Full-audio languages on the store are English, Simplified Chinese, and Japanese. The Simplified Chinese storefront titles the game 针影裁梦; Japanese storefronts keep the Latin title Dressmaker.
Where to go after the loop
Pattern cutting is the page for grain versus bias and for the mannequin that follows each client's measurements. Sewing machine covers the vintage head and the infinite bobbin. Decorations is buttons, bows, appliqué, and lace, including the achievement that asks for more than 50 metres of trim on one dress. Fabrics sticks to the five families the Steam page actually names rather than inventing a 450-row catalogue. Sketchbook is where colour, samples, and appliqué land before you cut.
Customers lists the ten townsfolk whose major commissions are named in visible achievement text, and shop window covers selling off of the rack when you want a break from those commissions. Steam Achievements holds all 32 icons with unlock rates. This prototype on itch.io is still Prototype 0.5.5, Name your own price, and it is not the Steam build. Pet the kitty answers price, platforms, languages, and whether controller support has shipped.
Official video lives on the Cozy Lives YouTube channel. The studio also keeps Instagram as Cozy Lives, a Dressmaker Discord at discord.gg/tBa93Rzgj5, and a Free Lives press kit. Use those when you want the current trailer, date announcement, or FAQ short rather than a recap.
